The peri-menopause link

Where do I begin. There is so much to roll out once those words roll off your tongue. At least 85% of my clientele is currently experiencing different phases of Perimenopause. Funny thing to see it linked to a hair stylist Blog, but truthfully, sometimes the first sign you will see is hair loss.

Although I am not a licensed medical professional with the ability to diagnose medical conditions, I can provide education and support. Most clients see changes in their hair, along with many other skeptical symptoms like mood swings, hot flashed, insomnia and changes in skin - to name a few. Often booking a consult with their family doctor (if they are lucky enough to have one) to discuss what is going on. Often sent for bloodwork which is then reviewed with the patient and sometimes "everything seems normal" is the answer. If the medical professionals refer you to a dermatologist, that could take years. So what can you do in the meantime?

This is where a Trichologist focused stylist comes into play. If you are trying to get to the bottom of your hair changes, information is key for you. If you are wanting to cover it up and choose the route of extensions, hair plugs or transplants - that is a different path. Often Trichology looks at the reasoning behind hair changes and typically collaborates with other professionals to help provide answers with a health and wellness focus.

I have 21 years in the hair industry, with dozens of upgrading courses included technical work. My Trichology training has been the most rewarding of them all. Now I can offer those with questions or an undefined path to wellness, some support and information which often helps bridge the gap between the clients and the medical community. With decades of personal self study, specifically dealing with Type 2 Diabetes (MODY), and the hormone insulin, ADHD, Anxiety and then post-partum hormones, there has been a lot of research in my studio. If clients have something I am unfamiliar with, we seek help from other professionals who can assist.

Post Partum is unfortunately, many years of ups and downs (so it seems). It's not over quickly. Having the right support can mean all the difference.
