Finding the right stylist

The beauty industry has been around for decades. No one batted an eye at the chemicals in perms, relaxers, hair color - or even hairsprays.

Today, more and more people are thinking about their overall health. This looks different for everyone. For many, this means considering what goes on and in their bodies. And considering that we use a significant amount of beauty care products daily, what are we putting into our bodies?

Fo me as a stylist, I use these products several times a day on clients - imagine what is in the air in my studio? Or what chemicals are layered on my hands after shampooing, conditioning, styling cream, etc. x 4 clients or more / day. For me, awareness started when I was working with the AVEDA brand in Halifax about 18 years ago. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, just when the AVEDA brand was rebranding to be "pharaben free". Since then, I have owned and operated businesses of my own, and have always worked with "healthier"products that still perform to my standards. Healthy products and scent free colors are imperative to the longevity of my worklife, to my home and to my clients.

Products purchased from health food stores often feel good and smell great, but the reality is - do they work? If you are not struggling with any specific issued like hair loss for example, these products might be just fine for you. But quite often when clients are complaining of spending money on this and that, and their hair is still not "feeling" the way it should - there is something off in our product or color routine. It's darn right annoying to spend any extra coin these days on something that doesn't work. No one has money to throw away. When booking at The Rosemary, you can schedule in a mini hair consult that allows us to dive in and discuss your needs specifically while reviewing your current habbits and product uses. A small upfront cost at the start can put you on the right path.

On the flip side of products, the environment in a typical salon is full of sprays and scented products, ammonia and who knows what else. Aerosol sprays and ammonia are known irritants, causing breathing issues, flare up asthma and even reactive airways. For individuals who are immune compromised, have scent sensativities, have breathing or respitory issues, or even just those who choose a clean lifestyle - typical salons are just not for you. Ideally, you want a place that offers scent free or scent sensative products, a ventilation system and an understanding of your concerns. The Rosemary is a private home studio that offers clients a quiet, professional space catered to everything listed above. No harsh scents. No ammonia based colors. Good ventilation and purification system. And clean, often Canadian products.

If you or someone you know has been struggling to find a salon or stylist that offers experience in health and wellness, that offers quality services and product, maintaining professional and spa like experience - share this page. Although I am currently part time, my availability for new clients will be opening end of August / September 2026.
